West Bank: A violent confrontation in the occupied West Bank has intensified tensions after one Israeli settler and four Palestinians were killed in clashes near the city of Nablus.

According to Palestinian health officials, Israeli forces shot and killed four Palestinians in the village of Tell following the confrontation. The Israeli military said it was responding after an Israeli security guard was killed during the incident. Several people from both sides were also reported injured.

Netanyahu announces new settlement measures

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz announced new measures following the clash.

The government said it would increase military operations in Palestinian villages suspected of having militant activity and speed up the legalisation of some existing settler outposts while establishing new ones.

Most Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are considered illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this position.

Rising tensions and international concerns

The West Bank has witnessed increasing violence involving Israeli forces, settlers and Palestinians.

Palestinian officials and human rights groups have reported attacks by settlers, including damage to property and violence against communities.

Israeli authorities have said stronger security measures are needed to tackle militant activity and protect Israeli citizens.

Wider Israel-Palestine conflict

The latest violence comes amid broader tensions across the region linked to the long-running Israel-Palestine conflict. The West Bank, captured by Israel during the 1967 war, remains a central issue in the conflict, with Palestinians seeking it as part of a future independent state.

The latest clashes have raised concerns about further escalation and increased pressure for international efforts to reduce violence.
