The Israel Defence Forces have claimed responsibility for a wide-scale series of strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure in Tehran

Tehran: The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday said it carried out a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure in Tehran, focusing on multiple strategic sites linked to Iran’s defence network.
In a post on social media platform X, the IDF stated that the operation hit several locations associated with what it described as the “Iranian terror regime”, including weapons storage and production facilities. It added that multiple temporary command centres were also dismantled during the strikes. However, the IDF’s social media post cited in initial reports could not be independently located later, and no additional verified public confirmation of the specific details was immediately available at the time of reporting.
According to the IDF, the operation targeted a range of military assets, including ballistic missile production and storage facilities, aerial defence systems, and observation posts. The strikes reportedly took place in the “heart” of Tehran, signalling a direct hit on core infrastructure.
The statement further claimed that some command locations used by military personnel were impacted during the operation, indicating disruption to coordination structures on the ground.
In response to the ongoing conflict, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued warnings suggesting that institutions linked to the United States and Israel in the region could be considered legitimate targets if attacks on Iranian academic and cultural sites continue.
Iranian officials have accused US and Israeli forces of targeting educational infrastructure, including universities and research centres. In statements carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC condemned what it described as repeated strikes on Iranian academic institutions, alleging damage to scientific and cultural assets.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has also criticised the strikes, claiming that the broader campaign is aimed at weakening the country’s scientific base and cultural heritage. Officials argued that institutions such as universities and research centres have been deliberately targeted amid the ongoing conflict.
The latest developments reflect rising tensions between Israel and Iran, with both sides exchanging accusations and warnings as the conflict continues to expand across multiple fronts in the region.
