Iran fired its first missiles towards Israel on Monday after the appointment of the Islamic republic’s new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, state broadcaster IRIB reported.

The announcement was made through IRIB’s Telegram channel, which described the launch as the first wave of missiles fired under the new leadership.

“Iran fires first wave of missiles under Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei towards occupied territories,” IRIB said in its Telegram post.

The broadcaster said the missiles were launched on Monday following the appointment of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei as supreme leader.

IRIB also shared an image of a projectile bearing the slogan: “At Your Command, Sayyid Mojtaba.”

The phrase is described as a Shiite religious reference.
