Tehran: The Iranian military announced Sunday that it launched a drone strike against a key airbase in Jordan housing United States forces, according to state-run media reports.

The ISNA reported that the Iranian army targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq, approximately 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of the Jordanian capital. Iranian officials described the facility as a “key operational platform” used by the U.S. to conduct air strikes against Iranian territory.

Damage and Claims

The Iranian military claimed the operation successfully hit military equipment and living quarters within the base. According to reporting from Al Jazeera, the attack is part of a broader regional escalation that has seen Tehran target U.S. assets across several Gulf nations.

Regional Context

The Muwaffaq Salti Air Base has seen a significant buildup of U.S. military hardware in recent months, including F-15E Strike Eagles and high-tech radar systems. Tehran has repeatedly warned regional neighbours against allowing their territory to be used as a staging ground for Western military operations.
