Tehran: Iran announced the execution of a man convicted of being an agent for Israel’s Mossad spy agency, as Tehran intensified its crackdown on suspected espionage amid ongoing hostilities with Israel.

According to Iran’s judiciary-run Mizan Online website, the man, identified as Majid Mosayebi, was hanged on Sunday morning after his death sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court. He was accused of attempting to provide "sensitive information" to Mossad.

The execution comes as Iran and Israel continue trading fire for a tenth consecutive day, following the June 13 Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Later in the day, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir reported the arrest of three more individuals in Iran’s western Kermanshah province on espionage charges. One of those arrested is reportedly a national of a European country. The arrests, Jahangir claimed, were made possible due to citizen cooperation with Iran’s intelligence and security forces.

He also revealed that Iran is establishing special judicial branches in provincial prosecutors’ offices to handle Israel-related espionage cases “on an extraordinary basis.”

Human rights organisations, including Amnesty International, continue to list Iran as the second-highest executor globally after China. The country frequently carries out death penalties for charges ranging from espionage to drug offences.

The latest execution underscores rising domestic surveillance and judicial action by Iranian authorities in the midst of a deepening regional crisis.
