A 34-year-old Indian nurse at Singapore’s Raffles Hospital has been sentenced to 14 months in jail and two strokes of the cane after he molested a male visitor under the pretext of “disinfecting” him inside a hospital toilet.

Singapore: An Indian nurse employed at Raffles Hospital has been sentenced to one year and two months in jail, along with two strokes of the cane for molesting a male visitor. The court delivered the verdict on Friday.
The offender, Elipe Siva Nagu, 34, committed the act in June this year inside a patient’s toilet at the hospital on North Bridge Road, according to court documents.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua told the court that the victim, who had gone to visit his hospitalised grandfather, was using the toilet around 7.30 pm when Nagu looked inside. Under the guise of wanting to “disinfect” the visitor, the nurse applied soap on his hand and proceeded to molest him.
Shocked and disturbed, the victim did not react immediately but later reported the incident to the authorities. Nagu was arrested on June 23.
The prosecutor said the incident caused the victim significant emotional distress, including recurring flashbacks. Following the offence, Raffles Hospital suspended Nagu from duty.
The case was reported by The Straits Times and cited by PTI.
In a separate incident last month, another Indian national and Singapore permanent resident, Ankit Sharma, 46, was sentenced to four years in prison for molesting a woman inside a nursing room at Changi City Point mall.
