This rhetoric follows ongoing tensions regarding the accuracy of war reporting, with Trump maintaining that the US has achieved decisive military success despite conflicting international reports and active regional strikes.

Washington: US President Donald Trump intensified his criticism of media coverage regarding the conflict in West Asia, alleging a pervasive institutional bias against his administration and asserting that news organisations would portray an outright Iranian capitulation as a triumph over the United States.
The president issued the critique via a post on Truth Social, directly targeting mainstream media entities and congressional Democrats for their framing of the ongoing military narrative. Within his commentary, Trump utilised the derogatory term "dumacrats" to describe members of the opposition party.
"If Iran surrenders, admits their Navy is gone and resting at the bottom of the sea, and their Air Force is no longer with us, and if their entire Military walks out of Tehran, weapons dropped and hands held high, each shouting 'I surrender, I surrender' while wildly waving the representative White Flag, and if their entire remaining Leadership signs all necessary 'Documents of Surrender,' and admit their defeat to the great power and force of the magnificent U.S.A., The Failing New York Times, The China Street Journal (WSJ!), Corrupt and now Irrelevant CNN, and all other members of the Fake News Media, will headline that Iran had a Masterful and Brilliant Victory over The United States of America, it wasn't even close," Trump wrote.
"The Dumacrats and Media have totally lost their way. They have gone absolutely CRAZY!" he added.
The public declaration reinforces the president's long-standing pattern of challenging mainstream press coverage concerning national security affairs and international diplomacy, specifically regarding Iranian relations. Trump did not explicitly cite the individual news broadcast or article that prompted his remarks.
Preceding Media Grievances
The modern relationship between the executive branch and national journalism has been marked by persistent tension. Just last month, Trump expressed sharp dissatisfaction with The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal regarding their operational assessments of the war with Iran.
He accused The New York Times of distributing fabricated narratives regarding the conflict, categorising the journalism as "fake news" and demanding a formal retraction for what he designated as misleading coverage targeting both his leadership and the nation. In a subsequent social media post, Trump contended that, contrary to journalistic depictions, Iran had been "totally obliterated, militarily and otherwise."
Furthermore, the president dismissed the consensus of The Wall Street Journal’s editorial leadership after the publication characterised his declaration of a military triumph as hasty.
"The Wall Street Journal, one of the worst and most inaccurate 'Editorial Boards' in the World, stated that I 'declared premature victory in Iran'," Trump stated on Truth Social.
Contemporaneous Military Developments
The rhetorical escalation materialised concurrently with active operations in the theatre of war. The U.S. military executed defensive strikes Sunday against Iranian missile infrastructure and maritime vessels positioned near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, occurring despite a standing armistice between the adversary nations.
Tehran formally denounced the strikes, declaring that the deployment exposes Washington's "dishonesty and unreliability," even as multilateral diplomatic channels remain engaged to resolve the broader geopolitical crisis in West Asia.
