Two trains collided near Hillerød in Denmark, injuring 38 passengers, including five critically

Copenhagen: A collision between two trains in Denmark early on Thursday has left five people critically injured, with several others hurt, in what authorities have described as a major incident. The crash took place during the morning hours north of the capital, prompting a large-scale emergency response and an ongoing investigation into its cause.
The accident occurred at around 6.30 am near Hillerød, approximately 40 kilometres north of Copenhagen. According to officials, the crash involved two trains carrying a total of 38 passengers.
Initial reports indicated that four people were critically injured, but authorities later revised the figure to five. It remains unclear whether the train drivers were among those seriously hurt. Around a dozen others sustained minor injuries.
Emergency services responded in large numbers, with ambulances and helicopters deployed to assist the injured. All passengers were evacuated from the trains, and there were no reports of anyone being trapped.
Some of the injured were airlifted to hospital, according to Trine Egetved, the mayor of the nearby Gribskov, who shared updates on social media.
The collision occurred near a level crossing, and images from the site showed significant damage to the front sections of both trains. Despite the impact, both trains remained upright on the tracks.
Visuals from the area indicated a head-on impact, with the damaged trains positioned facing each other on the line.
