Dhaka: New Interim Government will take over Bangladesh shortly, which will be led by Dr Salimullah Khan and Dr Asif Nazrul, both noted Bangla writers.

Others in the Interim Government are Justice (Rtd.) Md. Abdul Wahhab Miah, General (Rtd.) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Ma. General (Rtd) Syed Iftekhar Uddin, Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, Brigadier general (Rtd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman and Justice (Rtd) M A Matin

Bangladesh’s Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman had earlier said the interim government would take charge as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left for the country on Monday.
Speaking to the media, he had said, “All Opposition parties got together and proposed to form an interim government. We will go and meet the president.”

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has beefed up security at the Bangladesh High Commission in Chanakyapuri in Delhi in the wake of developments in the neighbouring country, an officer said on Monday.

Police have also made tightened security outside the Indira Gandhi International Airport, in case Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina lands in the national capital.

There were unconfirmed reports that she was headed to a city in India.

"More barricades have been placed outside the commission and the number of police personnel deployed there has been increased," a Delhi Police officer said.

More than 100 people have been killed in the protests against the Hasina government in the last two days.

The country has been witnessing fierce demonstrations over the controversial quota system that reserves 30 per cent of jobs for the families of veterans who fought the 1971 liberation war. (Agencies)
