Dhaka: Days after the killing of youth leader Sharif Osman Bin Hadi triggered fresh unrest in Bangladesh, another political figure was targeted in a shooting incident on Monday, raising concerns over growing violence in the country.

Motaleb Sikdar, the Khulna divisional chief of the Bangladesh National Citizen Party, was shot in the head by unidentified assailants. He sustained a bullet injury on the left side of his head and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors said his condition is being closely monitored.

The attack comes amid heightened political tension following the death of 32-year-old Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, founder of Inqilab Moncho and a prominent youth leader. Hadi played a major role in protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which ultimately led to the collapse of her government.

Hadi was shot in the head earlier this month while campaigning in Dhaka ahead of the February 12 parliamentary elections. He was initially treated in Bangladesh before being shifted to Singapore, where he succumbed to his injuries last week.
