Washington: The bald eagle, long a symbol of the strength and power of the United States, has officially been declared the national bird. President Joe Biden signed new legislation into law on Tuesday, correcting an oversight that had left the bird’s official status unrecognised.

The bald eagle, known for its white head, yellow beak, and brown body, has been a prominent figure in U S symbols for over 240 years. It has appeared on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782 and was designated the national emblem by Congress in the same year. However, until now, it had never been formally recognized as the national bird.

The eagle’s image is widely used in official documents, the presidential flag, military insignia, and U S currency. This new legislation finally designates the bald eagle as the country's national bird, solidifying its long-standing role in American heritage. The eagle is native to North America and continues to stand as a powerful symbol of the nation’s identity.
