Dubai: A powerful dust storm swept across parts of the UAE on Wednesday, severely affecting visibility in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) reported that northwesterly winds had reduced visibility to below 3,000 metres in several areas.
The blowing dust and sand continue to reduce visibility in open areas on Thursday. Both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are forecast to experience rough to very rough sea conditions, and authorities have advised against swimming, diving, or engaging in marine activities.
Dusty conditions are likely to persist into Friday, with increased humidity expected during the early morning hours over northern inland areas. The winds will stay moderate to fresh, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.
The authorities had issued an early warning on Tuesday, advising residents in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and parts of Dubai to remain alert. Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to drive with caution, avoid distractions, and refrain from using mobile phones or recording videos while on the road.
Coastal cities including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah also experienced high temperatures, ranging from 30°C to 38°C. The highest temperature recorded on Wednesday was 45.4°C at 12:30 PM in Sweihan, Al Ain. Humidity levels are expected to reach up to 90%.
