Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has exempted fines for drivers exceeding the minimum speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road (E311), a key motorway linking the capital and Dubai.
Previously, the minimum speed limit was set at 120 km/h, and drivers who fell below this speed were fined Dh400 ($108). However, going forward, there will be no fines for driving below this speed limit.
The decision was made to enhance traffic safety and facilitate the movement of larger vehicles, including trucks. The speed limit signboards have been updated accordingly. However, the maximum speed limit on the road will still remain at 140 km/h.
The minimum speed limit of 120 km/h was introduced in April 2023, following extensive traffic studies. After two years of analysis, the authorities have now decided to lift this restriction.
