Kochi: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Consumerfed is aiming at a market intervention amounting to Rs 200 crores this Onam season. Through its 1,500 Onam outlets, the Consumerfed intends to sell goods at 10-40 percent lower than the market prices. For example, 13 Onam-related goods which will cost the consumer Rs 1,000 in the market, will be available for Rs 462 via the Consumerfed outlets.
The Onam sales of the Consumerfed are dominated by vegetable items, value added products, and other essential consumer products. Pinarayi vowed to sort out the issues of Consumerfed employees later on. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the statewide Onam sales for the year at the Consumerfed headquarters in Gandhinagar, Kadavanthra.
“Rumours suggesting that the PDS system has crumbled are baseless. See, we are a consumer state, as a result, prices tend to skyrocket during festive seasons. But in reality, the price hike rate in Kerala is lower than that of the national average. This is made possible through calculated market interventions,” said Pinarayi.
Inaugurating the Onam sales, the Kerala Chief Minister handed over Consumerfed products to a person named Kunjamma Kuttappan. MLA TJ Vinod also attended the event.
