Thiruvananthapuram: The government has taken measures to merge Malappuram District Cooperative Bank (DCB) with Kerala Bank.
Earlier, the Kerala Cooperative Societies (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022, was passed in the assembly, enabling the Registrar of State Co-Operative Societies to issue an order to merge Malappuram District Cooperative Bank with Kerala Bank.
Earlier, 13 district cooperative banks merged with the Kerala Bank but the Malappuram bank refrained from passing the resolution for merger. Following this, several petitions were filed in court. The government sought permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after Kerala High Court vacated a stay that restricted the merger.
