Thiruvananthapuram: In a remarkable move to modernise the film industry, the Kerala Government has earmarked ₹2 crore for the development of an e-ticketing system for theatres across the state.

The e-ticketing initiative will be implemented through the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), which owns 17 film theatres across the state. This digital transition aims to streamline ticket sales, enhance transparency and improve the overall movie-going experience for the public.

In addition to this, ₹21 crore has been allocated for the developmental activities of KSFDC. Out of this, ₹3 crore is set aside for the construction of new theatres at Palayad in Kannur and Munnar in Idukki. The Kairali, Sree and Nila theatres in Thiruvananthapuram have already undergone renovations to meet modern standards, while the renovation of Kairali Theatre in Thrissur is nearing completion. New theatre projects in Alagappa Nagar, Vaikom, Payyannur and Kayamkulam are also progressing steadily.

Kerala continues to lead in cinematic innovations, being the first state in India to launch a government-operated OTT platform, ‘C-Space’, which is run through KSFDC. This platform has provided filmmakers with an alternative distribution channel, fostering a more inclusive cinematic landscape.

Further, steps are underway to establish a Chalachithra Museum at Chithranjali Studio, dedicated to showcasing the rich heritage of Malayalam cinema. An additional ₹14 crore has been earmarked for the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy, with ₹1.4 crore specifically allocated to benefit women in the industry.
