How to buy gold coins in India
Gold coins are available in various weights in India, including 1 gram, 2 grams, 4 grams and 10 grams. Buyers can choose from plain gold coins and those featuring designs of Hindu deities. Before making a purchase, it is important to check the purity of the gold and compare prices across sellers.
Gold coins can be purchased from reputed jewellers and banks that sell them. Some banks offer gold coins in tamper-proof packaging, although buyers should check the purity certification, applicable charges and resale terms before purchasing. Always ask for a bill or receipt, as it serves as proof of purchase and may be required when selling the gold later.
Buyers should also check the final price, including GST and any applicable making or other charges. If paying by credit card, check whether the seller levies an additional transaction fee. Gold bars are another option, while gold ETFs offer an alternative for those seeking exposure to gold without physically holding the metal. Sovereign Gold Bonds may also be considered when available for purchase through authorised channels.
The choice between gold coins, bars and financial gold products depends on the buyer's budget, purpose and investment horizon. Those buying physical gold should prioritise purity, proper documentation and the terms governing resale.
