Metro Comparison: Petrol prices continue to show a major regional disparity due to varying state-level VAT (Value Added Tax) and local cess.

LPG Price Update: Domestic and Commercial
While petrol and diesel are revised daily at 6:00 AM, LPG prices are typically adjusted on the first of every month. For December 27, domestic LPG cylinder rates remain frozen, though commercial rates have seen minor downward adjustments in certain regions earlier this month. The LPG price today for a domestic 14.2 kg cylinder stands at ₹852.50.
Factors Influencing Today's Rates
The current price stability is influenced by several trending industry factors:
- Crude Oil Benchmarks: International Brent crude prices are currently trading around the $60.34 per barrel mark, providing a stable foundation for domestic pricing.
- Currency Fluctuations: The USD-INR exchange rate (currently approx. ₹89.58) plays a vital role, as India imports over 80% of its crude requirements.
- State VAT & Excise Duty: While the Central Excise Duty remains fixed, the final Retail Selling Price (RSP) differs by state. For instance, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana continue to see some of the highest petrol prices in the country, exceeding ₹108–109 per litre.
