India’s domestic air traffic continued its upward trajectory in June 2025, with over 1.36 crore passengers flying across the country, according to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This marks a 3% increase compared to May, when airlines carried 1.32 crore passengers.

During the first six months of 2025, Indian carriers transported 851.74 lakh passengers, a 7.34% increase over the 793.48 lakh passengers recorded during the same period last year.

IndiGo remained the market leader in June, although its share dipped marginally to 64.5% from 64.6% in May. Air India Group, which includes Air India, AIX Connect, and Vistara, strengthened its presence with a combined market share of 27.1%, up from 26.5% the previous month.

Akasa Air held steady with a 5.3% market share, while SpiceJet saw a decline, dropping to 1.9% from 2.4% in May.

The overall flight cancellation rate for scheduled domestic carriers stood at 0.93% in June. Technical issues accounted for nearly 37% of the cancellations, followed by operational reasons (25%) and weather-related disruptions (22.4%).

Flight disruptions affected thousands of travellers last month. Around 1,20,023 passengers faced delays, for which airlines collectively paid over INR 1.68 crore in facilitation services. Meanwhile, 33,333 passengers were affected by cancellations, with INR 72.4 lakh disbursed in compensation and services. Additionally, 1,022 passengers were denied boarding and received approximately INR 99.57 lakh in compensation.
