In an era where food delivery has become part of daily life, a customer in Coimbatore has sparked debate over the rising cost of convenience. After comparing the price of a takeaway meal to the same items ordered via Swiggy, the local resident found himself paying 81% more on the delivery app — raising questions about transparency in pricing.

The customer, identified as Sunder, shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), where his post quickly went viral, garnering nearly 3 million views.

“Hey @Swiggy, please explain,” he wrote. “Why does ordering food in the app cost 81% more than buying the same food from the same outlet, just 2kms away? Is this the real cost of convenience? The extra I have to pay to get the food delivered is INR 663.”

Sunder attached screenshots of both bills for comparison. His Swiggy order totalled ₹1,473, while the same dishes purchased directly from the restaurant cost only ₹810.

Though food delivery platforms typically add charges for packaging, platform fees, taxes, and delivery, the steep price difference has reignited concern over the lack of clarity surrounding how final prices are calculated.
