New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the decision to abolish the Angel Tax in the Union Budget delivered on Tuesday.

In a post shared on X, veteran Congress leader and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram welcomed the Finance Minister's announcement of abolishing the Angel Tax, adding that it was a measure the Congress party has been advocating for years.

"I was pleased to hear that the FM will abolish the Angel Tax. Congress has pleaded for its abolition for many years, and most recently, it was highlighted on page 31 of our Manifesto," he tweeted.

However, the Congress leader accused the Centre of copying some ideas from the Congress Manifesto. "I wish the FM had copied some other ideas from the Congress Manifesto. I shall shortly list the missed opportunities," the leader tweeted.

"I am glad to know that the Hon'ble FM has read the Congress Manifesto LS 2024 after the election results. I am happy she has virtually adopted the Employment-linked Incentive (ELI) outlined on page 30 of the Congress Manifesto," a Congress leader remarked. "I am also pleased with the introduction of the Apprenticeship scheme along with an allowance to every apprentice, as detailed on page 11 of our Manifesto."
