The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) had previously submitted an application to the Civil Aviation Ministry seeking site clearance for the Parandur airport project. Following the ministry's approval, the state government is set to initiate the bidding process for the project's construction and operation.
The proposed airport is expected to serve as Chennai's second major aviation hub, complementing the existing Chennai International Airport. This development aligns with the central government's strategy to enhance airport capacity in major cities, addressing the growing passenger demand.
While the project promises economic growth and improved connectivity, it has encountered opposition from local communities concerned about land acquisition and environmental impacts. The state government has formed an expert committee to address these issues and explore measures to mitigate potential adverse effects on the local population and ecosystem.
As the bidding process commences, stakeholders anticipate further developments that will shape the future of Tamil Nadu's aviation landscape.
