Karipur (Kozhikode): Passengers can fly from Kozhikode to Malaysia for Rs 6000 as AirAsia will begin service from May. Bookings will start for the tri-weekly service by the Malaysian budget airline company AirAsia by mid-April.

The company received the service time-slots the other day and announced that the ticket rates will start from Rs 6000. The first phase of the service will be on the Kozhikode -Kuala Lumpur route on a A320 aircraft with a seat capacity of 180 people. The Kozhikode-Malaysia trip will cost very little since Indians do not need a visa to go to Malaysia. Kozhikode-Thailand service is also under AirAsia’s consideration.

As the service begins, passengers from Malabar regions and places like Coimbatore and Mangaluru, will be able to reach Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, and other places without much difficulty. Many people from Malabar regions fly to these countries for business, tourism and higher education purposes.

As of now, passengers are depending upon Kochi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Coimbatore airports for these trips.
