
Malappuram: Disputes broke out within Muslim League over the election of Malappuram Makkaraparamba Panchayat president. A group of youth league activists protested during the meeting that was convened to elect the new president. When the dispute intensified, the Youth League activists locked the Muslim League leaders in the room where the meeting was taking place.
It was decided in the meeting to make the current vice-president, Suharabi, the president. Youth League activists stepped forward demanding that the Youth League leader Anees Madathil should be made the president.
As the meeting was progressing inside, the Youth League activists protested outside. Following this, the regional leaders of the Muslim League were locked in. Later, the police arrived, unlocked the padlock, and let out the leaders who were locked inside.
Moves to elect Suharabi as the president are progressing. Due to the protests, senior leaders have also interfered in the matter. The League informed that action will be taken against those who indulged in the protests.
