Kottayam: Panic broke out at Kottayam Medical College on Thursday when a section of a disused three-storey building, formerly the 14th ward of the orthopaedics department, collapsed without warning.
Bindu, a resident of Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam, tragically lost her life in the incident. She remained trapped under the debris for nearly two hours before rescue teams were able to locate her. But she could not be saved.
Rescue efforts reportedly began only after a two-hour delay, prompting questions about the efficiency of emergency response protocols.
According to initial information, three individuals, including two women and a baby were trapped inside at the time. They were later rescued with only minor injuries.
