Kozhikode: A complaint has been filed, asserting that the suicide of a young woman at her husband's residence, was due to domestic violence. Shabna, wife of Kunnummakkar Habib, took her own life on Monday night due to marital distress. The couple had been married for a decade. Despite Shabna's parents urging her to return to their home due to difficulties she faced at her husband's residence, she chose to remain with him.
However, finding it untenable to continue living there, Shabna opted to rent a place. In order to cover expenses, she requested to return 120 sovereigns of gold, provided as part of the dowry. Her plea was denied. On the day of her demise, relatives allege that Shabna was subjected to physical assault by her husband's family. CCTV footage of the incident has been provided by Shabna's relatives.
Following the incident, relatives asserted that it was a case of suicide. Despite Shabna's 10-year-old child telling people in the house about unusual sounds from her room, it is learnt that the relatives failed to investigate. At the time of the incident, Shabna's husband's brother and father were also present but reportedly did not attempt to intervene to save the young woman. Relatives have accused the family of negligence and filed a complaint with the police.
