Kozhikode: MA Mohammed Jamal, general secretary of Wayanad Muslim Orphanage and Muslim League state secretariat member breathed his last at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Thursday. He died at the age of 83.
MA Mohammed Jamal was born in Manikuni in Sulthan Bathery on January 19, 1940. He studied in his native place and later on in Guruvayoorappan college in Kozhikode. He had started working with the Wayanad Muslim Orphanage (WMO) since 1967, and was serving as the general secretary of the organisation since 1988. WMO currently has 35 institutions in Wayanad.
The veteran was a guiding light to kids in the orphanage. He gave them the courage to face the world. He was lovingly called as ‘Jamaluppa’. Community marriages were conducted at WMO under his leadership since 2005.
MA Mohammed Jamal had a long standing relationship with Muslim League and was one of the key members of the organisation.
The veteran was conferred with several awards including the Kerala Mappila Kala Academy’s first Sharifa Fatima Award in 2006. He had also won the Quaid-E-Millath Foundation's Quaid-E-Millath Award.
Mohammed Jamal was a multi-faceted person. He is survived by his wife Nafessa and three children.
MA Mohammed Jamal’s body was laid to rest in Chungam.
