Thiruvananthapuram: LDF convener and CPM central committee member EP Jayarajan on Monday said the party is ready to invite even Congress to the agitation planned against Uniform Civil Code (UCC). “If Congress renounces soft-Hindutva and is ready to take a strong stand against the RSS agenda, then we will invite them too,” he said.

According to Jayarajan, CPM aspires to strive against the communal agenda, by incorporating all. “It will be a strong warning against the RSS agenda if Kerala stands together. That’s why we invited all to the seminar to be held in Kozhikode. However, is it possible to invite RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami who bats for making India a theocratic state?” he noted.

Jayarajan also responded to the media persons’ question about whether they expect IUML’s support for the agitation as the latter declined CPM’s invitation to seminars on UCC. “We have hopes in all matters. All parties have the authority to decide on their stand… Even in IUML, many think they should not ally with Congress. We expect those people will cooperate,” he said.

He cited the cases of Loka Kerala Sabha and flood relief, where IUML cooperated with LDF. “IUML’s stand is not completely detrimental like Congress,” he added.

Jayarajan also criticised UDF and highlighted that “there won't be Congress if IUML leaves the front.”
