
Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with the death of a wild elephant in Vithura here, a man has been arrested. The man, identified as Kallar native Kochumon aka Rajesh, was taken into custody by Palode range forest officers. Soon after this, Rajesh who is a heart patient, felt uneasiness and was shifted to hospital. Currently, he is under observation in medical college hospital.
The wild elephant was found dead at Kallar in Vithura on Saturday. The elephant was spotted in the compound of Rajesh. Electricity was passing through a metal line that was used to dry rubber sheet. The elephant got electrocuted from this and died. Rajesh was held responsible for this.
The picture of an elephant calf trying to wake the dead mother elephant was widely noticed. The baby elephant was left alone after the death of its mother. There was no herd of elephants seen in the area. As it was not safe to send it back to the forest alone, the calf was taken to Kappukadu elephant sanctuary.
