The inspiring woman who chased thieves is now running in Kalpetta

Kalpetta: “I am a familiar face to everyone, but no one remembers who I am — I am that ‘one woman’,” says Soumya, Left Front candidate from the 12th ward of Kalpetta Municipality, with a smile that makes us think, “Who is she?”
We need to rewind a bit: Do you remember the courageous woman who chased thieves who snatched the chain from her neck and got her gold back? Hard to forget — that story travelled across the world through Navya Nair’s film ‘Oruthee’.
But Soumya is not just the woman who made the thieves admit ‘Chechi is super.’ She is also the one who openly said that actor Vinayakan’s stance on the MeToo issue was wrong — without any hesitation. The incidents that barged into Soumya’s life one evening was what director VK Prakash presented to the audience through the movie Oruthee.
Soumya is one of the prominent young leaders of CPI in the district. A native of Kallukadavu in Kollam, Soumya came to Wayanad in 2017 when her husband Shaiju was transferred here.
