Thiruvananthapuram: Birshu Raba, a West Bengal native, who won the Kerala government’s Fifty-Fifty lottery worth Rs 1 crore returned to his native on Wednesday. After the tax deductions, Birshu boarded the flight to his homeland with around Rs 66 lakhs in his account.

His big win was something special. Birshu had bought the ticket from a lottery vendor in Thampanoor in the month of June. After realising that he was the lucky winner of a Kerala lottery, the guest worker rushed to the Thampanoor police station ‘in fear for his life’. He was under police protection ever since then.      

The police helped the guest worker to open a new bank account at the Federal Bank branch in Lulu Mall. He was provided with a debit card and checkbook as well. The prize money was transferred to Birshu’s account the other day after mandatory tax cuts. 

After reaching his home safely, he made a phone call to Thampanoor CI Prakash. Birshu, who is having a good time with his family members, made it a point to send a video to the police officer, thanking Kerala cops for all the support they had provided him.
