Vinod Kumar’s swift and meticulous fieldwork sets a new benchmark for BLO performance in Kerala.

Kalpetta: Despite controversies surrounding the workload of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the intensive revision of the electoral roll, Pushpathoor Vinod Kumar from Wayanad has swiftly completed all procedures. He has earned the distinction of becoming the first BLO in the state to achieve 100% completion of SIR procedures in record time.
Vinod Kumar serves as the BLO of the 102nd polling station in the Kalpetta constituency. He completed all SIR procedures for the booth’s 820 voters within just 12 days.
All details were uploaded to the Election Commission’s website last Sunday. Vinod Kumar said that when the SIR procedures began, he categorised data such as: how many voters from the 2002 voters’ list were still included, how many were new additions to the 2025 list, how many women had joined the booth after marriage from other constituencies, and the number of overseas voters. This systematic sorting helped speed up the work.
Starting at six in the morning, he visited houses. Since the area includes hilly regions, he planned visits based on when people were likely to be home. The door-to-door visits continued until nine at night. Each night, he uploaded that day’s data to the site.
Familiarity with the local people—having been born and raised there—along with 14 years of experience as a BLO, helped Vinod complete the SIR work quickly. The Collector, D R Meghashree, and other officials congratulated him.
Vinod Kumar is a teacher at Padinjarathara AUP School and hails from Karattappadi at Thekkumthara here.
