Wayanad family loses contact with son after Middle East crisis, seeks urgent government intervention

Wayanad, Kerala: A family in Mananthavady is gripped by anxiety after losing contact with their son shortly after the war (Middle East crisis) began, with no update since his last call.
“Eight months ago, he left. He was supposed to return on May 6. He had called the day before the war began. After that, there has been no information…” said Shamsudheen, who runs a dried fish business in Kattikkulam town, speaking about his son, Fadusha Farhan.
The 20-year-old from Edayoorkunnu had travelled as part of an internship linked to a GP Writing course at Jaipur-based Rudraksh Shipping Services. His family has been waiting anxiously for any word from him.
“His last call was on the night of February 27. He said cargo had been loaded onto the ship he was working on and that it would soon depart for Turkey. The war began the next day. That is why we are worried…” said Farhan’s mother, Rahiyanath.
Struggles, silence and rising fear
Farhan had stayed in Jaipur for some time as part of his studies, where he faced significant difficulties, including with food. However, after reaching Iran, he had not reported any major issues.
“He had said there were no problems living there…” Rahiyanath added.
“Before the war began, internet connectivity in Iran had been cut off, and he had gone 28 days without calling. After that, I asked him to stop everything and return. He said there would be no issues as he was on the ship. All we want is for our son to return safely…” she said, her voice reflecting both worry and hope.
Appeal to authorities
Shamsudheen said representations have been submitted to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister O.R. Kelu, and MP Suresh Gopi, seeking intervention to bring their son back home.
