Bavali (Wayanad): Three men from Karnataka were injured when their car overturned into a stream while following Google Maps. The accident took place near Bavali Maqam, around 11 am on Saturday.
The injured have been identified as Benedict (67), D'Souza (60), and Lawrence (62), all residents of Chikkamagaluru. The trio was en route to Pulpally when their vehicle was mistakenly guided onto a narrow bridge meant only for pedestrians. As they attempted to navigate the narrow path, the car plunged 15 feet into the stream below.
Local residents, along with a team from the Mananthavady Fire and Rescue Station, arrived quickly. The rescue operation, led by Assistant Station Officers K. Kunjiraman, I. Joseph, and Senior Fire and Rescue Officer O.G. Prabhakaran, involved personnel including Fire and Rescue Officers Manu Augustine, K.G. Shashi, P.K. Rajeesh, T.D. Anuram, K.J. Jithin, and Home Guard Shijet Mathew.
The injured were pulled out of the vehicle and rushed to Wayanad Government Medical College Hospital by a fire rescue service ambulance. The car reportedly fell into the stream when the driver attempted to apply brakes after realizing the bridge was too narrow for vehicles.
