Thiruvananthapuram: One of the accused arrested in the VSSC examination malpractice case was previously employed in DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization), according to reports. Gautham Chauhan, who was arrested by the Museum police in connection with the case, said that he had worked for DRDO in a temporary position for an year.
Police suspect that two of Gautham’s friends who are DRDO employees were involved in helping him cheat in the VSSC exam. Police have found their address and they will be summoned for questioning in relation to the case. If they fail to appear, police plan to go to Haryana and interrogate them.
Another accused in the case, Amit, reportedly worked in the civil defense wing. At present, 10 people have been arrested in the case of which four are in police custody. The main brains behind the malpractice Lakhwinder, Deepak Sheokhand, the candidates Rishipal and Rohit Thakur are currently in police custody. Other accused will be taken into custody on Monday and interrogated.
During investigation, one of the candidates reportedly told the police that the full amount will be given to the impersonator only after receiving the appointment order. The price for this service is Rs 8 lakhs and a small amount is given as advance payment. The advance payment will include the money required for sourcing the electronic equipment and the airplane fare.
The silence of the malpractice masterminds Lakhwinder and Deepak is creating hindrance to the police. Only the candidates arrested are cooperating with the police.
