Thiruvananthapuram: Voting for Rajya Sabha bypoll necessitated after the demise of MP Veerendra Kumar, began in Kerala Assembly on Monday during its one-day session. The voting is being held at the parliamentary study hall at Assembly Square here.

Two MLAs of Jose K Mani faction have stayed away from the process. They alleged that Joseph faction was violating the whip issued.

81 votes were cast till now. 50 from LDF, 30 from UDF and PC George have cast their votes.

LDF has fielded Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) State President MV Shreyams Kumar as the candidate while UDF fielded Lal Varghese Kalpakavadi.

The voting is in progress as per Covid protocol.
