The Voters List is expected to be made within a week after the release of the notification

Kottayam: With the ward division and finalisation of its boundary regions now complete, the process of updating the Voters’ List is set to begin shortly. Once the Election Commission issues the official notification, the existing list will be revised and restructured in accordance with the new boundaries. Electoral Registration Officers have already received training for this task, including Secretaries from Gram Panchayats and Municipalities, as well as Additional Secretaries from Municipal Corporations.
Two booths will be set up if there are more than 1300 voters in a panchayat. In the case of a single ward in a Municipality or a Corporation that has more than 1600 voters, the same applies here too. The Voters List has to be revised on the basis of 5A in the Limitation Notification, as it clarifies the number of houses shifted from one ward to another due to the change in the boundaries. Voters are selected by comparing this 5A with the existing Voters’ List.
Voters are added through the Electoral Roll Management System software. The respective local body Secretary, Clerk, and Technical Assistant are in charge of its management. In case of any doubt, there is an option for field inspection too. The draft will be thoroughly verified by the Secretary, and the confirmed version will be published. At this stage, if any dispute occurs, the voters can inform the authorities.
The Voters List is expected to be made within a week after the release of the notification. Currently, there are 17337 wards in 941 Gram Panchayaths, 3241 wards in 87 Municipalities, and 421 wards in 6 Corporations.
