Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has not received any official information regarding the reported Rs 13,000 crore foreign investment linked to the expansion of the Vizhinjam International Seaport, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said while responding during the Question Hour in the Assembly.

Reports had suggested that global shipping giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) was planning to invest in the project in partnership with Adani Ports. However, the Chief Minister clarified that the Adani Group has neither held official discussions with the state government nor sought its approval for any such move.

He pointed out that the state government is a stakeholder in the Vizhinjam project and that, under the concession agreement, full ownership of the port is to be transferred to the Kerala government in 2080. Therefore, any major investment or change in partnership would require the state's approval.

The Chief Minister added that discussions may have taken place between the Adani Group and the shipping company, and the media reports could be based on those talks. However, no formal proposal has been submitted to the government.

He also said that the Vizhinjam Port City project and the 'Vision Samudra' initiative announced in the state Budget would strengthen Kerala's second-generation development ambitions. Besides Vizhinjam, the government will also give top priority to the development of Azhikkal and Beypore ports in north Kerala, he said.
