Vishnuja suicide case: Friend claims husband monitored victim’s phone, inflicted physical abuse

Malappuram:  New details have emerged surrounding the tragic suicide of a young woman, Vishnuja, in Elankur, Malappuram. A close friend of Vishnuja has come forward with allegations of severe abuse inflicted upon her by her husband, Prabin.

The friend claims that Vishnuja lived in constant fear due to her husband's controlling behaviour.  She alleges that Prabin meticulously monitored her activities through her mobile phone, particularly using the Telegram app. The friend also reports that Prabin subjected Vishnuja to physical torment, including strangulation.

Family’s claims corroborated

The friend’s account supports the allegations made by Vishnuja's family, who have stated that Vishnuja endured relentless mental cruelty at the hands of her husband and in-laws.  They claim that Prabin frequently demeaned Vishnuja, criticising her appearance and lack of employment.  The family also alleges that he tormented her regarding the inadequacy of her dowry.

Following Vishnuja’s death, which occurred last Thursday at her in-laws’ residence, Manjeri police have arrested Prabin. He has been charged with abetment to suicide, domestic violence, and dowry harassment, based on the complaint filed by Vishnuja’s family.

The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Vishnuja’s death.
