Thrissur: A violent clash erupted between students on Monday night at the ongoing D-Zone festival of Calicut University in Mala.
According to reports, several students sustained injuries in the altercation, which allegedly began over a dispute over evaluation of results.
The clash broke out around 11:30 PM on Monday, involving members of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Students Federation of India (SFI). Police officials intervened to disperse the activists.
Visuals from the scene showed students attacking each other with iron rods, wooden sticks, and chairs. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Reports indicate that more than 10 KSU activists and six SFI members sustained injuries. Shockingly, an ambulance transporting injured students was allegedly chased and vandalised by a group.
The tensions had been simmering since the start of the festival due to delays in events, issues with result announcements, and inadequate facilities at the venue. A shortage of stages caused significant inconvenience to participants. Competitions scheduled for Tuesday remain uncertain, with several events delayed until the following morning due to extended schedules past 10 PM.
