Thiruvananthapuram: Former CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s wife Vinodini Balakrishnan was served notice by the Customs Department. She has been summoned to the Kochi office of Customs on March 23 for interrogation.
The Customs served the notice to Vinodini after finding out that she used the controversial iPhone gifted by Unitac MD Santhosh Eapen. Though a notice was served prior to this, Vinodini did not appear before Customs stating she did not receive it.
The first notice was returned with the remark that addressee’s door was closed. The notice was sent to the address of Bineesh Kodiyeri in Thiruvananthapuram which was raided earlier. Though the officials tried to contact Vinodini over phone, she could not be connected.
The Customs has sent the new notice to the address of the flat in Thiruvananthapuram. If she failed to receive this notice too, they will take strict action.
The Customs had found out that Vinodini was using one of the six iPhones bought by Santhosh Eapen. They are probing how she received the phone and to whom it was handed over later.
