Kochi: Kochi DCP S Sasidharan stated that actor Vinayakan has been booked under multiple charges, resulting in up to three years' imprisonment if proven, for allegedly creating a ruckus at the Ernakulam town police station in an inebriated condition on Tuesday evening (October 24).

Vinayakan was booked under section 118 A of the Kerala Police Act for creating a nuisance in public space in an inebriated condition. He may be imprisoned for three years for the offence. Another charge under section 117 E has been slapped on the actor for threatening police officers on duty. He may be sentenced to three years' imprisonment for this offence as well.

DCP S Sasidharan said that he would be looking into the video evidence in detail before taking further action. However the police officer reasserted that the matter is of grave consequence.

“I am not revealing Vinayakan's personal issues here. Bet he’s a bit problematic when he gets drunk,” said DSP S Sasidharan.

The actor had called police to his flat near Kaloor after an argument with his wife. Similar issues have happened in the past as well. After arriving at the spot, cops recorded the statements of both Vinayakan and his wife. However, the actor, who was not satisfied with the action taken by the police in the issue, arrived at the station and asked for the identity of the woman police officer, who allegedly refused to show her ID to him when they visited his house. This resulted in a heated argument between Vinayakan and police officers.

The actor was confirmed to be in an inebriated condition after conducting mandatory medical tests. Following this, Vinayakan was brought back to the station from the hospital, and his arrest was registered. He was granted bail later on.
