Koyilandy: The Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) nabbed a clerk of the office of special tehsildar (land acquisition for Koyilandy National Highway development) for allegedly accepting bribes for the second time. The accused has been identified as clerk PD Tomy. He was nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs 86,000 on Thursday afternoon.
According to the complaint, Tomy had demanded the bribe to expedite measures to provide compensation for the complainant’s land acquired for NH development. Seven cents of land under the name of the complainant’s mother was acquired and Rs 2.86 lakh was sanctioned as compensation from the rehabilitation fund by the government.
The complainant, who was fed up with Tomy’s repeated demands for bribes, informed the matter to E Sunilkumar, deputy police superintendent, VACB, Kozhikode. Following this, a team of vigilance officers nabbed Tomy, while he was accepting a cheque of Rs 70,000 and cash of Rs 16,000 from the complainant inside a juice shop near the tehsildar's office.
Earlier, in 2017, Tomy was arrested by the VACB for accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000. He had then been working as a village assistant at the Kodenchery village office in Kozhikode. The case is currently pending before the Kozhikode Vigilance Court and is in the trial phase.
