Thrissur: NSS volunteers of VHSE are preparing masks from their homes for students in the state. Around 30,000 volunteers will be making 1.5 lakh cloth face masks. This was a challenge put forward by the Director of Public Instruction.
Masks are made as per the guidelines instructed by the state health department. The masks will be distributed to class 10, 12 and VHSE students who will be appearing for exams. Masks will also be given to schools that do not have NSS units. The training for making masks was provided by VHSE fashion and apparel designing course students via online.
NSS state program coordinator, P Ranjith, stated that the manufacturing of masks is scheduled to be completed by May first week. These are voluntary works as there is no fund available. Students who have access to stitching machines will prepare the masks and others will cut the cloth required for stitching. Teachers will provide necessary instructions over phone.
