Thiruvananthapuram: When Congress party workers were named accused in Venjaramoodu twin murder, it turned out to be a heavy blow for the party as it always took a strong stand against political murders.

Congress was not involved in any of the political murders that occurred in the state recently. Also they took strong stand in Periya twin murder case and other similar issues and thereby gained huge public support as well. However, the party is unable to answer the questions raised against them currently.

Congress claimed that the murder took place as a result of the vengeance that existed between two groups and that no political motive is behind it. The party does not accept political murders and the police should find out the criminals. The party would not try to protect the accused like the CPM, the Congress leaders responded on the matter.

However, minister E P Jayarajan came up alleging that the murder was committed with the knowledge of MP Adoor Prakash and other leaders. In response to this, Adoor Prakash denied the allegations against him and wanted the truth to come out through proper investigation.

The opposition had raised several allegations against the government including gold smuggling in the recent times. However, when Congress workers were involved in the twin murder case, the UDF was put on the defensive.
