Thiruvananthapuram: Vehicle ownership transfer is going to be a completely online process from now on. The condition of handing over old documents to the RT Office will be done away with. Instead, the seller should hand over old Registration Certificate (RC) to the new owner. Considering the online application, new registration certificate will be issued in the address of the buyer. Nobody should come to the office as part of selling vehicles.

Earlier, it was mandatory to produce the old RC at the RT Office even if online application is filed. As it was found that this system was misused by middlemen, the new online facility was launched. It will be more transparent when Aadhaar is made compulsory as new ID proof. The central government will issue the final notification regarding Aadhaar.

The online facility was successfully implemented in issuing of driving license. Similarly, the new facility is introduced for vehicle ownership transfer also. The system that settles the online applications removing middlemen will be launched on Wednesday on a trial basis.

License duplication and change of address will be considered based on priority. One application will be considered only after settling the previous one. After a two-week trial, the priority-based system will be implemented for other services too.
