Veerendra Kumar was determined to fight extremist outfits: CM

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan remembered MP Veerendra Kumar on the first death anniversary celebrations and said he was a leader who was determined to fight extermist outfits at any cost. He was a strong presence in the assembly and parliament and was a noted literary and cultural figure, the CM said.

The chief minister said this while inaugurating the session 'MP Veerendra Kumar, a politician and a friend' as part of the webinar 'Ormayil Ennum' organised as part of the first death anniversary of former Mathrubhumi Managing Director, writer and politician MP Veerendra Kumar.

Despite having difference of opinions, both of us maintained a healthy relationship for a long time. We were imprisoned during the Emergency and our friendship began from there. We followed two ideologies - Communism and Socialism. But we maintained same values and it helped us maintain the personal relationship, the chief minister remembered.

Nature conservation and farm policies were his major topics of concern. He took a strong stand on environmental issues and led protests. He brought to light the invisible occupation by the corporates through his book 'Gattum Kanacharadukalum'. When Fascism affects our lives, all have to fight together. He joined our force for such a battle, the CM said.
