Kochi: Muslim League MLA V K Ebrahimkunju will not be contesting the assembly election from Kalamassery seat this time. His son Adv V E Abdul Gafoor has been fielded in Kalamassery seat as per the list announced by the party.

Ebrahimkunju was elected from Kalamassery four times in a row. There were discussions in UDF that he is likely to be defeated due to the allegations of Palarivattom flyover scam. Following this, his son was considered for the seat.

Meanwhile, V K Ebrahimkunju told the media that Abdul Gafoor was not considered as his son.

“Adv Abdul Gafoor was fielded as candidate not as my son. He is Ernakulam district general secretary of Muslim League and works as a high court lawyer. He has his own office and practices well. Also he had acted as the government’s counsel in the high court,” Ebrahimkunju said.

Gafoor also should work for the public like other candidates. The people were choosing me for the last 20 years. I request Gafoor to follow the same path, Ebrahimkunju added.
