Thiruvananthapuram: The natives of Vazhuthakkad here are surprised by the brilliance of the Engineer brothers who performed a ‘police-style’ probe in finding out their pet dog just in 10 days with the help of CCTV visuals .
Satheesh Thampi's dog, Bruno, a Lhasa Apso breed, went missing on January 16. Satheesh Thampi lives near Vazhuthakkad Carmel School. The family was disappointed when the police said it was difficult to search for the dog during the Covid crisis. Hence, Satheesh Thampi’s sons, IT Engineer Naveen Thampi and architect Kiran Thampi, decided to find out their pet without the help of police and others.
On the day the dog went missing, they were informed that two bike riders had gone to the Jagathy area with such a kind of dog. After searching everywhere within an area of 3 km, they posted a ‘missing dog’ poster. They searched for the dog in the Jagathy area for five days.
Later, they got CCTV visuals from a pet shop in Idappazhanji of two men on a bike going with the dog to the Maruthamkuzhi side. They collected CCTV visuals from nearby houses and shops and continued their probe. Naveen and Kiran said that although some people initially objected in checking the footage, most of them cooperated when they came to know about the matter.
On January 24, they got a clue from a number plate from the CCTV visuals of a temple in Maruthamkuzhi. With this, a list of vehicles with this number was prepared. They also shared on social media the details of the sports jersey worn by the person sitting behind the bike. On January 26 noon, they received footage of the culprits without their helmets from the CCTV visuals of a shop at Nettayam. As soon as their faces became clear, their details and pictures were posted on shops and residents' associations in Nettayam.
With that, the people who stole the pet dog called Naveen and Kiran on phone. The callers requested not to act against them and said the dog is safe. The owners did not file a complaint because they learned that Bruno was taken good care for ten days. It was the dog's tenth birthday as well on Thursday. The family cut a cake to celebrate the return of Bruno, who had been a member of the family for many years.
