Kuthiran: Old National Highway situated in Vazhukumpara collapsed on Friday morning. It was situated near the ascent of Kuthiran where the construction for new road was progressing. No casualties were reported since there were no people present when the incident happened. 

The road collapsed some 50 meters away from the temporary waiting centre made for police in Vazhukumpara. The road lopsided into the ditch made for building a safety wall for the new road. 

The road that had started cracking collapsed on Friday morning with a loud noise. When the traffic control in Kuthiran created blocks, the vehicles were diverted through this closed road. Since there was no traffic block on Friday, vehicles were let through this road. 

In the current situation, heavy cargo vehicles cannot be allowed to pass through this road during times of heavy traffic. Locals have started protesting against the damage caused to the road that collapsed before the final decision on its usability was taken.
